Construction Update – July 2009
July 13th, 2009
New Zealand contractor ASR Ltd have confirmed that they have deployed, filled and completed 10 of the 18 geo-textile bags which make up the top layer of the surf reef.

Construction of the reef relies on periods of good weather with calm seas, so it is unlikely that further work will take place in the next few days.

is this reef going to work? Over the weekend there was a small swell that came in at about 3 feet and the reef, especailly the front section which i think has a top section already fitted, looked rubbish.I thought that the reef was meant to improve whatever swell was coming into the bay?

I hope it works better than the Mount Reef where I live. Although it is often claimed that the Mount Reef is a success, click the link to read what it’s really like from the local surfers perspective.
