ASR Ltd have confirmed that 7 of the 18 geo-textile bags which make up the top layer of the surf reef have now been completed.

Surf Reef Construction - June 2009

The reef consists of two layers – a bottom layer with two sections A & B (37 bags in total) and a top layer consisting of sections C (10 bags) and D (8 bags). The second layer sits on top of the existing bags which were finished last year. Section C bags get progressively bigger towards the centre of the reef, the largest being 70 metres long by 6 metres high, although they will actually form an oval shape when filled.

Each bag has to be deployed individually and harnessed by a team of expert divers to the webbing base, which has been placed over the bottom section. The bags are then filled with sand which can take up to four hours.

now i am even more confused as it seems different to the animation that shows the reef construction where all the top layer bags were equal size and length. That does not sound like the description given above at all??

has the order of bags been reversed from what the initial animation shows??
