Hemmingway Surf Pods

An exclusive sales event took place today to mark the launch of the 48 ’surf pods’ situated on Boscombe seafront within the Overstrand complex. The pods, which are for day use only, have been designed by Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway MBE – creators of the iconic Red or Dead fashion brand. They are available to purchase on a first come first served basis and are divided into single, double and ‘pentapod’ corner versions.

Wayne Hemingway’s designs pay homage to the Overstrand’s 1950s heritage including feature walls, using vintage, coastal artwork from the Hemingway’s personal collection. Pods feature mains electricity, hot and cold running water, and French doors leading onto private balconies overlooking the beach and surf reef, which is anticipated to be completed this Autumn.

Surf Pod Interiors

Wayne says:

Bringing this great building back to life and creating an opportunity for people to buy their own little seaside haven, complete with views to die for, and with access to a great beach, cool new restaurant and surf shop and surf school, has been great fun and a privilege. This really is a unique project and those of us who will have access to one of the Overstrand Pods will be fortunate souls indeed. I can’t wait to bring the family down to ours. The re-imagining of the Boscombe Overstrand will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the resurgence of Boscombe.

Roger Brown, Director of Leisure Services says:

The pods fit the feel and look of Boscombe seafront perfectly. The £11million Regeneration project is turning Boscombe back into a holiday resort in its own right, with a unique identity. The successful opening of Urban Reef restaurant, Sorted Surf Shop, Reefside catering and the transformation of the seafront, Boscombe Pier, and Boscombe Chine Gardens combined with the construction of the surf reef is making this area the most innovative seafront for the beach pods.

Prices are £64,995 inc. VAT for a single pod and £89,995 inc. VAT for a double. Photography by Avanti Web Media.

Whats happening to the reef there been no news for over a month ??

  2. 2 Fran says:

I went to Boscombe for the first time with a load of friends in our VW Surf buses, but there’s nowhere to camp and the car parks cost a fortune and you can’t stop overnight. What sort of surfer community are you expecting in Boscombe? People in new Audi estates who check in to 4 star hotels?

You have not thought this project through if you can’t provide free camping facilities for surfers near the beach, because there is no way I or my friends would leave our classic VW campers unattended in a rough place like Boscombe.

Does the Council have any immediate plans to accommodate proper surfers and their vans?

  3. 3 Colin says:

Have these been funded with ratepayers’ money?
If so it is a disgrace.
You would expect any designer worth his/her salt not to get involved in such a hairbrained scheme.
