ASR Back to Complete Surf Reef Project
April 17th, 2009

The team responsible for building Bournemouth’s artificial surf reef have returned this month to complete the overdue and eagerly anticipated project.
ASR Ltd will recommence work that was delayed due to poor weather conditions back in November 2008.
The news will come as a sigh of relief to all those involved in the project, in particular council officers who recently admitted to having a contingency plan in case the New Zealand-based team did not return.
ASR Ltd are currently working off-site preparing the webbing and setting up equipment. They will be back in the water as soon as wind, wave and tide conditions are favourable enough to safely complete this complicated marine project.
It’s hoped the reef will be ready by September 2009.

woohoo, I would love to know what the contingency plan was, local builders perhaps?

Sigh of relief the NZ team came back – plenty of confidence then eh – we will see, I wonder if it was the same contingency plan as used by design team for the disappointing Mt Maunganui and Opunake artificial surf reefs in New Zealand. lol

The transformation of the boscombe sea front is amazing! I was in the area 12 months ago before the work really started and wow what an improvement it is now. With the resturants and bars, surf shops and surf school , new development etc there is a really good vibe! In fact i couldnt help myself i wanted to be a part of it so i bought a surf pod (beach hut). Well done all involved!
