Preparation Begins for ASR’s Return
March 16th, 2009
Supplies of sand already distributed across the beach, from the Honeycombe Beach development eastwards, began to be sifted and stockpiled today, in preparation for contractor ASR’s return next month.
8,000 cubic metres of sand over and above that needed for beach replenishment, is currently spread along the beach from groynes 23 to 26, and 28 to 30, a stretch of around 500 metres.
The sand required for filling the bags that will make up the top layer of the reef, needs to be of a particular consistency, which means refining and sifting the sand, a process that will take between four and six weeks. As the sand is sifted, it will stockpiled between groynes 23 and 24.

once again ASR are leaving one unfinished reef in New Zealand to go finish (maybe ) another unfinished reef in the UK.
sounds more like an excuse to have an endless summer.

So does anyone know if they have actually started the reef again this month? Do you think it will realistically be ready for the autumn/winter swells?

The reef will never work.

As far as I know they are back, but to add to the delay I have been told that a buoy came loose and the chain slashed one of the bags so god knows how long it will all take, but I do know that they have been diving.

Nah not sour grapes JBAT just the reality as surfing communities are being taken for a ride. Driven by local politicians, everybody’s on the band wagon and yet we have two reefs in Nz that are not working as design teams said they would – and it starts off just like this oh we need xtra time or the bags come loose blah blah if i was still living in highcliffe surfing the crows nest, or in bournemouth and a ratepayer I’d be spewing. good luck though if anywhere needs a reef its the pier.

Did any of you negative people stop to think that these guys are actually working their ass off to try and make these things work. As with any new product or venture there are going to be errors made. I think that they have a dream job and you negative lot need to stop get your facts straight and stop being so sour (Si)
