Councillors To Come Under Scrutiny At Town Hall Meeting

The over-due and over-budget Boscombe seafront regeneration scheme will be the subject of a special scrutiny meeting this Wednesday evening.
Officers will be asked to explain exactly how the costs of the Boscombe Spa Village project have escalated by a third to more than £11 million. Only last month, cabinet members deferred a decision to allocate a further £1.8m of money to the project until after the scrutiny panel has met.
Councillors will face questions such as why the council boasted of securing a ‘guarantee’ that the reef would be completed by the end of 2008 when, in fact, this was subject to good weather. Also, why the council has paid for accommodation for surf reef workers, even when they have been out of the country.

Hello,
Despite being a surfer and would love waves “localish” (I live in London now, from Perth Australia) I have over the years been highly critical of this whole project as you may or may not have seen from other posts.
The answer was obvious 5 years ago when I first started posting and is still obvious – its never been about surfing. If it was they would not have proposed a surf reef in a place which simply does not get any swell (as I have explained before its never going to produce waves…).
Why are you wondering why the reef has not been completed? Well the whole thing has NOT BEEN ABOUT SURFING!! Just about giving contracts to various people (which may not be a bad thing – but don’t think its about creating waves) and most likely the odd bribe here and there…
You can’t turn lead in to gold in the same way you can’t turn ripples into surf, but people can be paid in the process of trying to do so…
