Second reef to fight erosion?
October 20th, 2008
It has been reported today that Bournemouth could be in line for a second surf reef if the one currently being constructed at Boscombe proves a success.
A new reef could be installed at Southbourne, primarily to help protect the beach from erosion.

Roger Brown, the council’s head of leisure services has said:
We’re pretty confident it will work for coastal erosion as well. If it does we may be able to provide another reef at Southbourne.

Often the ones designed for erosion don’t provide good surf.
However, the ones designed for surf are supposed to also prevent erosion.
If the council were to go for a second reef, if the 1st one works, they’d be better off going for a surf reef in my opinion as then they have the best of both worlds and yet another tourism attraction / draw for investment.

I think for this to be a successful surfing option, one primary element is missing…
You might need swell as well as the reef????

Well I must admit Justin as I’m not local I wouldn’t know on that score. I’m presuming if Boscombe gets swell then Southbourne probably gets some as well, but I could be wrong.
