The Story So Far
September 2nd, 2008
Despite poor summer weather conditions, construction of the reef remains set for completion by late October. The first stage of the work is well underway, with 16 of the geotextile bags being filled over five days.
Those of you who have followed the development of the reef from the very beginning will know it’s been a long journey, spanning almost a decade!
Here’s the story so far…

Hi,
I seem to remember that the reef was originally going to increase wave height by between 100 and 300% (I think this was then corrected to a 100% !!). The latest article suggests an increase of only 15-20%. I appreciate that the reef will provide a more rideable wave but why such a drastic decrease in expected size? Bournemouth rarely gets swell of more than 3ft which is pretty small by anyone’s standards so one would have thought wave size would have been of importance?
Regards,
Matt

What happens next is that the reef fails to perform and ASR start talking more about how it will be an attraction to divers.
Of course they first make sure that the reef remains slightly unfinished so that they have something to blame. . .. that will take a couple of years at least.
